Cursillo

Cursillo is a movement of the church. Its purpose is to help those in the church understand their individual callings to be Christian Leaders. The leadership may be exercised in work situations, in the family and social life, in leisure activities, and within the Church environment. Leadership, in Cursillo, does not mean power over others, but influence on others; all of us need to be aware that we can exert a positive influence on those around us.

Cursillo is one way to grow your personal spiritual life. It is a part of the Episcopal Church all over the world.  Cursillo can begin with a three day weekend presented primarily by lay people.  Clergy are an important part of the Cursillo movement. Once we’ve had the jump start of a weekend experience we continue on our path working the 4th day of Cursillo as the rest of our lives.  We come together to support & learn from each other. The church of the Good Shepherd is blessed to have many Cursillistas (those that have been through a weekend).

Check the bulletin board for those among us. Please talk with them about Cursillo. They would love to be your sponsor. For more information  see the track rack for brochures or click here for the National Episcopal Cursillo website.

VBS!

This summer, Good Shepherd will host its first Vacation Bible School in a very long time. In order for the VBS to be successful, volunteers are needed to fill several positions. Please plan to attend as a volunteer and/or bring your first grade through fifth grade aged children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors to VBS. The Bible school will begin Monday, July 28 and run each evening from 6 - 9 pm, through Friday, August 1. If you would like to volunteer or enroll a child or both please contact Megan Albin

Education for Ministry
Groups Beginning this Fall

Education for Ministry (EfM) is a program of study, prayer, and reflection which is coordinated by the School of Theology at the University of the South. It is designed for laypersons who want to gain a better understanding of scripture, theology and themselves.

EfM is a four year course of study, but you sign up one year at a time. The first year studies the Old Testament, second year the New Testament, and third and fourth years cover church history, liturgy, philosophy and theology. The groups meet once each week during the school year with the guidance of trained mentors. Meetings include worship, fellowship, study, discussion, and theological reflection.

Groups tend to become close and safe communities where people feel comfortable considering their own personal theology. Exploration and questions are welcome, and thoughtful reflection and discussion often provide new insight into participants’ faith and life.

Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral will be hosting two EfM groups this fall. Beginning in September, a group will meet Thursday evenings at 6:30, and another group will meet Tuesday mornings at 9:15. The program costs $340 per year. Study materials are provided.

If you are interested, or you would like more information, please contact Kristin Niederberger or the Reverend Carol Sanford at GHTC (474-8260). You may also visit the EfM website at www.sewanee.edu/EFM.
Good Shepherd parishioners who are currently enrolled in EfM, and who could answer many questions about the program, are Judy Kile, Nina Edwards, Kathy Potter and Susan Nielsen.
